Our Fort Mason studio programs are designed to encourage children to explore their creativity. Inspired by Reggio Emilia, children are able to explore the studio space and make creative choices with the guidance of our art teachers. Our online classes are designed to provide creative engagement via Zoom while nurturing personal connections between peers.
Classes in our Fort Mason studio and online are fee-based and all proceeds from tuition are re-invested directly into SFCAC’s community programs. Scholarships are available.
Classes for Younger Children (22 Months to 5.5 Years)
Side-by-Side (22 – 36 mos with parent/caregiver)
SFCAC’s inquiry-based approach supports an exploratory process in this parent/child class. The teacher guides children, parents, and caregivers, offering insight into the developmental domains of art-making and how children engage with tactile materials. Each week our painting wall, drawing, and playdough tables are a welcoming entry into our studio.
Little Art Makers (2.5-3.5 years)
Tailored for children who are ready to make the transition into attending a class independently, Little Art Maker classes offer an organized open studio format. Our focus is on supporting a process-oriented, open-ended art experience. Revisiting familiar materials from week to week deepens learning by allowing children to make connections and master techniques.
Art Studio I & II
SFCAC’s Art Studio classes provide younger children with open-ended, process-oriented art experiences. 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art activities will focus on problem-solving, critical thinking, and reflective dialogue between peers and our teaching artists.
- Art Studio I is 90 minutes in duration for preschoolers ages 3-5
- Art Studio II is 2 hours in duration and is for PreK and Kindergarten students ages 3.5-5.5
