Class Schedule

How do classes work at SFCAC?

Ages 22 months to 5 years: Side by Side, Just for Twos, and Art Studio classes for toddlers and preschool-age children take on a weekly basis for the entire session. Partial sessions and drop-ins are available.  A mix of open-ended art activities will be provided each week.

Ages 5 to 10 years: After School classes take place Monday through Friday afternoons. Become immersed in cool clay, capture your world with digital photography, interpret the scenic vistas of our unique Fort Mason campus, build your painting and drawing skills, and much more...

Note: classes with fewer than three students enrolled can be subject to cancellation. Please check this page regularly for the most current list of class offerings.

Choose a date that works for you, and attend a regularly scheduled class! Perfect for trying out a new class or for scheduling last-minute activities.
*Class sizes are small - we highly recommend calling ahead or reserving your drop-in online to guarantee a spot for your child!

Ages 3 to 5 years: Our 2 hour Art Studio classes for toddlers and preschool-age children take place in the mornings. A mix of open-ended art activities will be provided each day, including painting, playdough, sculpture, and printmaking.

Full day option for children ages 5.5 to 10 years! We're continuing our partnership with fellow Fort Mason resident Young Performers Theatre (YPT) to offer an optional full day of performing and visual arts. In a teacher-guided open studio format, children are introduced to a wide range of art materials. They are encouraged to discover various media including painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. During class time, teachers engage students in dialogue and introduce appropriate artistic challenges that enable problem-solving, critical thinking, social development, and creative skills.

Ages 7 to 10. Fort Mason is all three! The Community Garden, public art and science installations, historical landmarks, nearby galleries, and marine wildlife will be our inspiration for sketches, paintings, and prints.

Ages 3 and up. Check out our new open-studio drop-in class where children and their families can enjoy the experience of making art together. Families will be able to rotate between our playdoh table and a special project station which will feature new materials each week. Each afternoon we値l pack up our art gear and hike up to the Fort Mason Community Garden! Swooping birds, buzzing bugs, and a colorful world of spring flowers, leafy greens, and prickly plants will be our inspiration for sketching, painting, printing, and more. Art explorers: please come equipped with a snack, a jacket, and sunscreen.
